Where to stay in Nice : neighbourhoods that work
The right hotel matters. The right neighbourhood matters more. You rarely sleep in the lobby.
In Nice, the neighbourhood often matters more than the hotel. A perfect room forty minutes from everything you want to do remains a perfect room you will spend less time in.
Stay somewhere between Jean Médecin, Carré d’Or, Old Nice and the Port. If a tram or train station is within fifteen minutes on foot, you have already solved much of the logistics.
Old Nice : for walking out the door
The most atmospheric choice if you want Cours Saleya and dinner on foot. The compromise is obvious : Old Nice is alive. So are its windows.
Hôtel du Couvent
The high-end choice that genuinely has a reason to exist here.
A restored 17th-century convent with 88 rooms, gardens and Roman-inspired baths. Spectacular, extremely considered and right inside Old Nice. Not the budget option. Nobody was really expecting that.
Rauba Capeu : for the view
Hôtel La Pérouse
For waking up above the Baie des Anges without sitting in the middle of the Promenade.
53 rooms and suites, four stars, a pool carved into the rock and a position between Old Nice, Castle Hill and the sea.
Carré d’Or / Fleurs : for the compromise
Close to the sea, centre and station without sleeping inside Old Nice. A strong first-trip location.
Hôtel Amour Nice
For a younger, less palace-like mood.
A small design-led hotel with a seasonal rooftop and affiliated beach on the Promenade des Anglais. The atmosphere is part of the point.
Villa Rivoli
For something more classic and contained.
24 individually decorated rooms in an 1890 Belle Époque house, a three-star hotel very close to the Promenade.
Port / Riquier : for getting around
Mama Shelter Nice
For a contemporary option near the Port.
102 rooms, rooftop and a seasonal pool reserved for hotel guests. The neighbourhood feels more everyday than Carré d’Or. That is part of its appeal.
Do not pay for a sea view if you plan to spend all day outside and close the curtains at night. The Mediterranean does not issue refunds.
